Gamescom 2021: The world’s largest games event again purely digital

After intensive discussions with partners and exhibitors, Koelnmesse and the game Association have decided to host Gamescom 2021 as a purely digital event. Just like in the previous year, Gamescom 2021 will take place exclusively digitally and free of charge for all Gamescom fans. In 2020 the great event celebrated a lot of successes: there were over 100 million video views across all formats and channels, over 50 million unique users from 180 countries, and 370 partners from 44 countries. To follow up on this success, the digital offering is now being expanded further.

Oliver Frese, Managing Director of Koelnmesse, says: “Together with the game association, we have given everything to make a hybrid Gamescom 2021 possible for fans and the industry. That is why we are again relying on a purely digital Gamescom this year and will be able to offer an even stronger online event with sufficient lead time for the gaming community at the end of August 2021. All partners are now able to book their participation.”

The whole Gamescom team has been working very hard on Gamescom 2021 for months, especially on the digital elements. For digital Gamescom 2021, the team is focusing on being able to offer even more variations of games, reach, and a community atmosphere. When it comes to Gamescom Epix, they rely on a completely new concept that sends the community on a joint quest journey on social media before Gamescom starts. With this, they want to transfer even more of the unique Gamescom atmosphere into the vast digital world.

With Gamescom 2021, Koelnmesse and the game association clearly want to follow up on the success of last year’s online event. Gamescom will be opened again with the spectacular Gamescom show: Opening Night Live with Geoff Keighley. The Gamescom Now content hub will be completely redesigned and made even more attractive with numerous additional features for fans and partners. Also new is Gamescom Epix which is a vast community campaign that all fans can use to immerse themselves in the Gamescom universe in a playful way on the “Road to Gamescom”.
